Direct support means using technical expertise to quickly and efficiently mine and analyze data. Working with the data requires the ability to extract, input, transform and display data about our academic and fee assessment business.</p> <p>The technical infrastructure includes Windows Workstations, Linux and <span class="caps">AIX</span> servers. Significant portions of the source data are currently available in Oracle and other <span class="caps">SQL</span> compliant databases.</p> <p>Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):</p> <p>• Direct analytical and technical support to defined, required and emerging external and internal reporting and data transfer, which includes: &#8211; Learner Enrolment Reporting data submission &#8211; Program Registry System updates &#8211; Student Finance fees data loading &#8211; Alberta Student Number transfer and loading &#8211; Application Submission Initiative data transfer &#8211; Return file loading and analysis.<br /> • Consulting with the team members, business system owners and users on development and maintenance requirements on local and external data analysis and storage systems.<br /> • Data extraction, manipulation and required analysis will include consultation with University of Calgary departments and faculties, Provincial Ministries and other government and private agencies.<br /> • Work at the highest technical level of all phases of system analysis and programming.<br /> • Act as a project leader.<br /> • Understand technical systems issues, application design issues, and business issues.<br /> • Provide guidance in development and implementation tool selection and use.<br /> • Develop procedures to solve complex problems using information systems, designing, coding or scripting, testing, debugging and documenting processes and programs, understanding the issues relating to technical systems, application design, and business.<br /> • Communicate effectively with University staff and faculty for the purpose of consulting and advising on a wide range of computing related issues.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>• Post-secondary education in Business, IT or equivalent, and a minimum of 5+ years related experience.<br /> • Technical mastery of data base and mining tools, which may include MS.Net/VB, <span class="caps">SQL</span> compliant databases and Cognos Decision Stream.<br /> • Proficiency in MS Access is considered an asset.<br /> • Strong understanding of technical system issues and business issues.<br /> • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills, self-motivated and directed, team player, able to work under pressure and thrive in a multi-tasking environment.</p> <p>Application Deadline: Open until filled</p> <p>This position is part of the <span class="caps">AUPE</span> bargaining unit.</p> <p>The position is part of the Technical Job Family, Phase II.</p> <p>For more details and to apply, please visit the University of Calgary career opportunities Web page at http://www.ucalgary.ca/hr/careers.
