DIRECTOR
TECHNOLOGY AND PRODUCT EVALUATION GROUP (TPEG)

The Centre on Applied Research & Innovation (CARI) is seeking a Director to lead the TPEG group in the area of applied evaluation research. The Director, TPEG is accountable for the planning, development, implementation and execution of the objectives associated with a focused applied research and development program. This involves conducting applied research on individuals’ interactions with features of their living or working environments and evaluating products (technologies, devices, prototypes) with the goal of enhancing the functionality and user friendliness of those technologies or products.

Specific responsibilities of this regular, full-time position include developing funding applications for business, industry, and public sector funding agencies, collaborating with other research units at BCIT and the external community, as well as facilitating research translation and technology commercialization by providing outlets for innovation, industrial assistance, consultation and contracted applied research. The Director is also responsible for the management of the research activities in the Dr. Tong Louie Living Laboratory, including maintaining partnerships with other users of this specialized facility.

The successful candidate will be primarily located at the Burnaby Campus, but will also have offices at CARI and the Downtown Campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of a master’s degree in human factors, ergonomics, psychology, business administration, social sciences, engineering, or other discipline that is deemed appropriate to achieve the objectives of TPEG; PhD is preferable
• Minimum of five years of relevant, current work experience conducting academic or industrial research, preferably with significant experience in applied research; this experience should include research project management, research and evaluation of environments, products, devices, and/or technologies
• Demonstrated ability to successfully compete for and negotiate research grants, industrial research contracts and other funding opportunities/initiatives
• Strong leadership and transition management skills with the ability to make decisions
• Good organizational skills and a high degree of self-motivation and business acumen
• Superior presentation and communication skills are necessary to establish and sustain relationships and rapport
• Demonstrated effective and positive management style for people and corporate cultures
• Must be computer literate in business software applications.
