full time Lab Service Technician/Systems Administrator

Redback Networks, an Ericsson Company is seeking a Lab Service Technician/Systems Administrator to join our Lab Services Group in Burnaby, B.C.

As Lab Technician/Systems Administrator, you will serve the datacenter and IT-based needs of engineers in a fast-paced, demanding work environment. Ability to assess macro approaches to systems utilization as well as an attention to detail for troubleshooting is crucial.

Duties will range widely from physical in nature to virtual, as you assist your colleagues with continuing efforts to maximize the efficiency and lab resource
utilization of engineers’ systems and equipment. Most of your initial focus will be directed toward system installs, builds and maintenance, while supporting lab network use and stability.

As you grow into the position, we are looking for qualified input on how we can improve costs and efficiencies by standardizing system platforms and engineer
practices.

You will have the following skillset:

- Excellent communication, teamwork, and troubleshooting skills
- 3-5 yrs. System administration skills working with SunOS, Linux, BSDI
and Windows platforms
- A basic understanding of electrical principles, AC and DC
- Strong work ethic and ability to see projects from start to start with
relatively little supervision.
- Solid network skills with experience in client/server and
router/switch configuration.
- Working understanding of common scripting/automation tools: Perl,
sh, cron, at.
- B.Sc. Computer Science or IT.
